Should I Have a Food Truck at My Wedding?
Wedding food can be . . .what’s the word we’re looking for? Ah, yes . . . bland. If you’re looking for a fun way to break the traditional wedding food landscape, food trucks are the way to go! Food trucks allow you to bypass the traditional wedding food—ahem, dry chicken, green beans, and something that resembles mashed potatoes for something fresh and delicious!
We’d be remiss if we didn’t say that not all food trucks are created equal. Just because their food is good, doesn’t mean they should cater your wedding. Most items on a food truck are made to order. Which means the food is prepared after it’s ordered. Waiting ten minutes for your specialty brick-oven pizza may not be a big deal on a casual Saturday afternoon, but multiply that by 150 guests, and you’ve got yourself quite a long wait and a lot of hangry guests. Make sure the food truck you select can feed your guest in a reasonable amount of time.
Here are a few questions to consider before booking a food truck for your wedding:
How many guests are you expecting?
Let’s break this down: If you’re expecting 150 guests and you have one food truck, guest towards the back of the line can end up waiting over an hour for dinner. Yikes! Depending on your guest count, it may be best to have two trucks, or have a truck that supplies a buffet or passed apps in addition to the items hot off the food truck!
Should you limit the options?
Food trucks, like most eating places, can have a plethora of items to choose from. Making decisions takes time and time is money (or in this case, time is a lot of hungry guests). Limiting the menu options will help you keep costs low and it will also help streamline the ordering process. Fewer options means fewer things to debate over. Guests will be able to make quick decisions so that we can all move on to everyone’s favorite part . . . dancing!
Where will the food truck(s) park?
Food trucks are a lot bigger than they appear. Before you sign on the dotted line, make sure your wedding venue allows food trucks and has an adequate amount of space to host the truck. This includes having enough space for the line to form.
One of our Nashville favorites is a food truck called Califarmia. Y’all, the food is DELICIOUS and on top of that their staff is incredible and super easy to work with. They consistently go above and beyond for their clients. If you haven’t had a chance to try them out, we feel bad for you! Check out their Instagram!
One thing that sets Califarmia apart from many food trucks we’ve seen, is that they serve passed apps and they give you the option to set up a taco bar or Korean bbq bar. Yum! These options not only keep your guests satisfied, but it also reduces the line for the made to order items.
If you’re thinking about having a food truck at your wedding, we say go for it! Food trucks are a great way to escape or enhance the traditional wedding scene. They’re fun and always a crowd favorite. Just be sure to properly vet your candidates to make sure they’re a good fit for your wedding. No matter how good the food is, no one wants to stand in line for two hours.
